Assignment One:
Do some research. What struggle for power was occurring in Nigeria at the turn of the century (1900)? What can you find out about the Igbo (sometimes Ibo) people? Using Piktochart, RWT Timeline, s'more, thing link, Prezi, Emaze, etc. organize your research. You should include at least two pictures, an explanation of the power struggle, and the facts about the Igbo/Ibo people. Please submit via schoology. If using Pages, save it as a pdf before submitting. |
Does the language intimidate you? There is an app for that...and it is free! Go the App Store and search for Things Fall Apart. The icon looks like the image to the left. This app gives you access to Igbo terms and character names. It both defines them and pronounces them for you.

Answer the following questions in COMPLETE SENTENCES in your daybook.
(Hint: a complete sentence states the question. For example, number one could begin, "Unoka consults an oracle because...")
Chapters 3-4 Questions
1. Why does Unoka consult the Oracle? What does the Oracle tell him?
2. What is the Week of Peace? What does Okonkwo do to break it and what action does the clan take?
3. Who is Nwoye and how does Okonkwo treat him? Describe the relationship between Nwoye and Ikemefuna.
4. Okonkwo’s first year as a farmer is difficult. How is the difficulty due to Okonkwo’s family history and how was it due to nature?
5. In a sentence or two, explain the concept of chi. What is the meaning of the proverb, “When a man says yes his chi says yes also?” What does Okonkwo means when he says he challenged his chi?
Major Assignment Three: Weebly Project: (part I)
Each of you will be creating your own Things Fall Apart Weebly page. You must complete all of the required tasks. If you would like to earn an A, you must also complete four challenge tasks. If you would like to earn a B, you must also complete three challenge tasks. The Weebly Project part 2 will only be completed by a portion of the class. Those who did not complete the part one Weebly on time will be given chapter questions to answer instead. |
