Greek Mythology
PreReading Assignment: Mythology Brainstorm
Use the link to list things you think you already know about mythology. Put each "thing" in a separate box. Limit: 4 pieces of info per student. |
PreReading Assignment Two: Gods Yearbook
In order to better understand the literature in this unit, you will create a "yearbook" for 13 of the most popular Greek gods/goddesses. Your yearbook must include the requirements for each god. You will create your page using www.piktochart.com. You will choose "presentation" and then "create your own infographic." Locate your images and save them to your desktop and then upload them into piktochart. Make sure your information is clearly and neatly displayed; otherwise, be as creative as you'd like! When you're finished, you will go to File and "download as an image." This *should* allow for easy submission via Edmodo. |

Ongoing Assignment One: Epic Poetry Characteristics
Download the file to the left. You will be responsible for knowing the literary terms in bold as well as completing the entire chart. It will be due April 24th. |
The gallery below is an example of just how varied the perception of the cyclops,Polyphemus, Poseidon's one eyed son really is. Why do you think their are so many different images of this popular character? Think about how the story was originally told. Which one is the closest to your own personal perception of the monster?
Assignment Two: Cyclops Art Contest
Now that you've read about Odysseus' encounter with the Cyclops, create your own piece of artwork that illustrates your perception. You will have 30 minutes of class time to complete the assignment. You may use whatever visual medium you choose, but you cannot use an existing image from the internet. Not the artsy-farty type? If you would rather compose a poem that relays the details of this part of Odysseus' journey or describes the cyclops instead, you may. There will be a separate category for poetry, so you'll still have the opportunity to win the contest!
